R.E.A.D. Charlotte Part One Format A 2-hour module open to all students, teachers & parents. Can be presented in 1 or 2 sessions, either during or after school. (Some schools incorporate this into the Language-Arts period while others have presented this after hours as a PTA project for parents, teachers & students.) Content 1. Measure present reading speeds. 2. Identify & discuss restrictive reading habits. 3. Identify & discuss concentration impediments. 4. Discuss reading motivation & de-motivational issues. 5. Impart techniques to increase reading speed, comprehension, concentration, retention & recall. 6. Motivate a passion for reading. Expected Outcomes 1. A renewed interest in reading. 2. A better understanding of reading issues. 3. A 50% to 100% increase in reading speed. 4. An enthusiasm to pick up a book as soon as possible. 5. A strategy for students, teachers & parents to implement progress achieved. 6. Improved in-class concentration. 7. Enhanced academic grades. Cost No cost to schools. R.E.A.D. Charlotte Part Two Format A 10-hour advanced reading skills course open to all students, teachers & parents, presented over 2 or 3 sessions. Purpose is to substantially increase the results & reading performance achieved in R.E.A.D. Charlotte Part One. Cost This is a partially-sponsored course. Participants are expected to co-contribute a nominal amount. Group Size Maximum of 20 - 25 participants per class. |
